It’s been a while since my last legit tumblr post. I’ve been real busy with work and reviewing for the MCATs that I’ve forgotten my social network sites (Facebook and tumblr). So this one is going to be pretty lengthy just to try and catch the world up with my life for those of you followers who are interested.
I finally found a job and was hired 13 months ago with a reputable orthopedic practice in the Bay Area. I was hired as a research assistant for the fellowship program at the practice and my main role has been to assist the fellows with their research and assist the program coordinator with running the program. I have a really good work ethic and my role has expanded from research assistant to administrative assistant as well. When my supervisor is away I end up filling in her shoes and become the assistant to 6 orthopedic surgeons and tasked with scheduling their meetings, depositions, lectures they attend or give as well as book their flights for any trips they may take. Sounds like I’m a total bitch to these guys, but I really enjoy what I do. Did I mention the guy who started the practice was the former team physician to the 49ers during their glory years and they let me observe surgery? It’s a great place to hear stories and gain experience in the clinical and administrative side of medicine and I couldn’t be happier.
One of the side projects I’m working on with one of the surgeons is to help him prepare for his oral Boards exam as an orthopedic surgeon. I have been going through selected cases and copying all the Op/MRI reports, follow up chart notes, etc. and putting them all in a binder for him to present on. Sounds like more bitch work and it is, but it’s been a great learning experience hearing about his approach and care towards his patients as well as preparing to take the Boards exam when I get to that point in life (I also get SF Giants tickets which is a bonus).
My family and I are going on a road trip to Yellowstone this Monday so you can expect a lot of photos to be uploaded as well as some more tumblr posts about this trip. I’m pretty excited about this trip because the last time I was there was in 1993, 19 years ago! I bet a lot has changed, but I’m looking forward to it and now that I’m older I can actually go hiking. I’m already for the hikes there. I’ve got my knife, bear mace, bear bell and go pack all ready for this trip.
Social life has been so-so. I’ve been going on a few dates with some girls I’ve met, but nothing serious has come out of them so far *shrug*. I’m in honestly in no rush and I’m enjoying the time I have being outdoors and doing the things I enjoy in life.
So I guess right now you could say I’m in a good place and couldn’t be happier.
